Much like other 3650 cards, you get a pretty good performer packed with features for a low price. The inclusion of native HDMI-out is a big plus for anyone running a home theater PC setup, but others are not left out with VGA and DVI connections as well.

Today we take a look at Diamond's lower cost, mainstream Radeon HD 3650 that increases total on-board memory to 1GB, but in doing so, uses lower cost, slower GDDR2 chips. In the pages ahead, we'll aim to find out if additional on-board memory really impacts performance more so than a smaller footprint of faster GDDR3 memory. The answer may definitely surprise you...

What's different about the Diamond HD 3650 from Diamond is that it carries with it a massive 1GB of memory. We're not really big on huge amounts of memory added to a mid-range card, but we'll have to see if Diamond is able to do anything with the HD 3650 here today that impresses us. Diamond does something that is quite common when companies increase the amount of RAM on lower end models. Instead of using 1GB of GDDR3, they've dropped back to GDDR2.

First and foremost, if you're playing at extreme resolutions of 2560x1600 a single ATI Radeon HD 3870 is clearly not going to cut it. It is able to provide playable frame rates in some situations but is bested by the Nvidia 8800 GTS in most of those same situations. When it comes to performance compared to a standard 3870 with 512MB, our 1GB version really didn't show much improvement in our short battery of test, but I believe that the performance is being held back more by the actual GPU than an increase in memory bandwidth and size can help. Our testing at such a high resolution should have given the Diamond 3870 1GB a chance to shine...

We're writing to let you all know that we've just posted a new article at HotHardware in which we evaluate Diamond Multimedia's Viper Radeon HD 3850 512MB Overclocked Ruby Edition graphics card - perhaps one of the longest names for a single product that we've come across. As its name suggests, the Viper Radeon HD 3850 512MB Overclocked Ruby Edition's frame buffer has been doubled from the reference card's 256MB to 512MB. Additionally, Diamond has gone an extra step and raised GPU and memory speeds from the default 670MHz / 830MHz of the original reference design to 725Mhz / 900MHz. Higher speeds and more memory just might be what the doctor ordered to make the Diamond Viper HD 3850 512MB a bit more competitive in an already crowded field of mainstream graphics cards. Head on over to the site and check it out...

Diamond's latest HD 3650 card features a huge video memory of 1 GB, but uses only slow DDR2. For media PC systems an extra HDMI output has been added which natively supports HDCP and audio. We run this card through our benchmarks and check whether the extra memory can make a performance difference.

Benchmark Reviews recently reviewed the ZOTAC 8800GT ZT-88TES2P-FSP, NVIDIA's very impressive answer to the HD3800 series. Though the NVIDIA beat ATI/AMD to market, the 8800GT release is a direct result of ATI/AMD's HD 3800 series. Today we'll be looking at one card responsible for the exceptional mid-range offering we are enjoying, the Diamond VIPER 3870PE4512 - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 PCIE 2.0 512MB GDDR4 Video Card; ATI/AMD's mid-range card that curiously happens to be their top performing single GPU card.

The HD3850 is an interesting card in the grand scheme of ATI's lineup and Diamond's 512MB version of the card is also interesting in that the card lies right in the middle of the 3850 to HD3870 price range. The price for this card online is $199.99, on Diamond's website and $179.99 at the lowest price available, which is $10 more than the 256MB version of this card. Compared to its lower memory sibling, the 256MB HD3850, a 512MB 3850 provides more performance for just a little more money. The 3850 from Diamond comes default clocked, meaning that the performance increase only comes from the extra memory on the card.

For twenty bucks this sound card is a great way to lower your CPU usage and increase your frame rates. Is it an increase that is going to be noticeable? Not if you're already getting over 90 frames but if you have a mid range gaming system and you are finding your frame rate starts to bottom out when you get a lot of action on the screen then this sound card is a perfect, inexpensive upgrade option for you.

Diamond Multimedia doubled the on-board GDDR3 memory from 256MB to 512MB on the Diamond Radeon HD 3850 512MB Ruby Edition Video Card, which should significantly help frame buffer performance in gaming, but that isn't all they did. They also tossed the old single slot cooler and went with a larger and improved cooling system that lowered temperatures across the board. To top it all off they designed their own PCB! As you can see, Diamond went back to the drawing board and came up with a video card that should impress most of the ATI fans out there...

Diamond has designed their HD 3850 Ruby Edition with additional cooling performance in mind. Their cooler is a custom dual-slot solution which does quite a good job at keeping the card cool. In addition to that the memory has been doubled to 512 MB of GDDR3.

Ok we're a little slow sometimes, we won't deny that. Why review a 1GB HD 2900 XT card when the new 3870 is out? Ultimately though, what the 8800GT and HD 3870 has done to these other high-end cards is make them worth absolutely bugger all on the second hand market. What this means is you can really pick up a bargain.

Although the Diamond HD 3870 512MB G-DDR4 is not the NVIDIA killer that it was rumored to be it is still a very good card that performs well enough and is priced well enough to still be a viable VGA solution in the mid range market. The card performed flawlessly in Windows Vista and played every game we use without error at resolutions of up to 1680X1050, even with the features set to maximum. There are a few 24" and larger monitors that do higher resolutions, but the user who buys that has the money to also buy a card to go with that pricey monitor. Priced at around $219.00 US, it is at the moment lower than an 8800GT the card from NVIDIA at which it is priced to compete with.

We recently got our hands on a pair of Diamond's Viper HD 2900 XT 1GB cards and have compared their performance to the original 512MB Radeon HD 2900 XT, and a trio of GeForce 8800 series cards, all running in both single- and multi-GPU CrossFire and SLI configurations. We also talk about the card's bundle and overclockability. Head on over to the site and check it out, we definitely had some interesting results...

It is clear to me that Diamond has once again made a very nice product, and they also keep it competitively priced as of the time this review is written. This product and the software included seem to do just about everything one could want from a portable TV card. As I said, the only downsides I saw in this product were the few seconds delay on the input, and the inability to modify some settings. Aside from that, this program makes excellent video captures, and makes it very easy to take it strait from your TV to a burned DVD in just a few easy clicks. Congrats to Diamond on making a solid product yet again, this one gets tagged with a Silver award, losing the gold to its few second delay. If you don't plan on gaming through it at all, this TV card will meet all your needs perfectly.
